Question:

Write an essay in which you discuss how this trip will complement and enhance your program of study at UHD and how it will contribute to your longer-term goals.

Answer:

University Of Houston-Downtown is one place I always dreamed of studying. My main goal to choose this place for my study is the variety of scope it offers to students. The second reason is that it is governed by the University of Houston (UH) system, which is an added advantage. As a senior level student, my long time vision is to get a Masters in Business Administration. I feel that taking up a special course such as China as an emerging economic giant in the global business arena would not only make my academic qualification stronger but also provide me greater opportunities to learn about business arena in a global level. The next factor is the study abroad program, which is one of my priorities to choose the course. This would give me prospects to represent my country as well as learn the nuances of Business in a global scale. All this put together, will serve as a great foundation to achieve my future goals.

As a senior level student at present, I am expecting to graduate with a bachelor’s of Business in Marketing by May 2008. As a student of Bachelor’s in Business, I foresee my future to become a Business Banker and work for the World Bank and travel around the world. At present, I am a member of Management in Capital One bank. To become a successful Business Banker, I need to know about Business at global level. I found the program that the University of Houston-Downtown offers to students being a great advantage for aspiring business students. There are various other reasons why I chose to graduate at UHD. I found that the University makes every effort for excellence in teaching and student success. The Academic Support Center, Computer labs, Learners Community, and the library help me in achieving excellent skill sets and knowledge. The Academic Support Center is worth a mention as it enhances my writing, reading and mathematical skills. It also offers a fine opportunity to have a one-on-one consultation with the staffs. The vast collection of books and reference materials in the library are great resources to all the students.

Considering the career prospects and my long term goal, I felt that the special course on China as an emerging economic giant in the global business arena and the trip would give me a wide horizon to know about how business evolves around the world. As this program introduces me to a wider range of topics pertaining to the economic and technical implications of China and to the business use of information technology on a global scale, I felt that this course would be a career-builder for me. In addition, to learn about a country that is emerging as an economic giant and a master player in business would definitely give me scope for improvements in future. Since the program is set up on a special topic that covers all business discipline, I feel that it is very useful in the long run. As I aspire to become a business banker, I believe that it would also fit the bill.

Moreover, the unique feature of this program is that a part of the course will be conducted in Hong Kong. Since the program offers plant tours and group outings that would expose me to the business climate of Hong Kong and its culture, this is more beneficial. In this case, it does not only benefit academic and career wise but also provides an opening to learn different perspectives about business strategies from a variety of people. It would also provide prospects to interact with people and get to know their approach towards finance and marketing in business. In addition, it would also help me understand and experience running business in other countries/parts of the world. I have experienced several study abroad programs in places like Austria, Iran and Israel. In 1999, I have attended a short class on History of opera in Vienna, Austria. I completed high school in Tehran-Iran. Finally, I attended fundamentals of Religion in Hifa- Israel in last May (2007). These experiences of studying abroad, further initiated me to choose this course.

Since this program evolves around the business scenario at a global scale, I felt that it would complement to my Bachelor’s course at UHD. I believe that this trip would support my major in marketing. I can use my skills in Marketing along with the business knowledge that I would acquire through this course to develop myself as a good business person. Equally important, the course expects the students to be ambassadors of International understanding and within the community after their return, which serves as a rare opportunity to widen my familiarity/perceptive to larger extent. Moreover, I feel that I could accumulate great knowledge through this International study. After my return, it would definitely help me in finding a marked difference between the business scenario in America and the world. It would gain me credence to pursue my masters in Business Administration, which I expect to attend in spring 2009. Besides, this in turn would be an added advantage to me as I can use the best of both studies and experience in my career to promote the economic growth of the nation as well as the world.

To conclude, the trip would be of great use to me as it would help me explore micro financing in the International money market, an area with abundant potential. With my background in marketing and my longer term goal to become a business banker, this course would equip me with both factual knowledge and hands on experience in this direction.
